The Bon Jovi story started in Sayreville, New Jersey, where Jon and his brothers Matt and Tony were raised by they’re parents Carol and John Bongiovi. During his early teenage career, Jon was hanging out at local clubs, convinced that one day he would be a rock celebrity. He was in previous bands such as Raze, Atlantic City Expressway (ACE), The Rest, John Bongiovi and the wild ones. The acoustical performance of "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive" that Jon and Richie Sambora performed at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards is widely acknowledged as being the genesis for MTV's "Unplugged" series. With 2009’s The Circle and The Circle Tour, Bon Jovi attempt to reclaim their position as the greatest rock band.
Throughout their career, the band have released ten studio albums, two compilation albums and one live album; and have sold over 120 million albums worldwide. They have performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans. In 2006 Bon Jovi were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, and in 2004 they were ranked number 14 in Q magazine's 50 Greatest Bands of All Time. The band was also honored with the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards in 2004. As songwriters and collaborators, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.
In January 21, 1984 their self-titled debut came which was filled with the group's now-signature power ballads and beautiful tunes underscored by soaring guitar riffs. The album was a great hit and its sales made it a gold recod. Bon Jovi released their follow-up album, 7800 Farenheit, in April 1985 which included the hit singles "Only Lonely" and "Silent Night", it sold equally to its predecessors. Bon Jovi will be returning stateside in 2011 and have announced an open-air tour with 3 dates in the UK including a headline appearance at London’s Hard Rock Calling Festival at Hyde Park.
